19-Dec-07 - Business As Usual

Our ferry service is operating normally and has not been affected by the bush fires on Kangaroo Island. We travel direct to Kingscote where it is business as usual for the town. Our day tours of Kangaroo Island are also still running daily as we have been able to modify our itinerary accordingly. We will return to offering our standard itinerary as soon as possible.

The South Australian Tourism Commission is offering the following advice for visitors to Kangaroo Island:

Kangaroo Island is Australia’s third largest island, and only a portion of the island has been affected by the fires.

In the wake of the fires, tourism will be a key factor in the recovery of the island, and there is no reason to cancel bookings to Kangaroo Island.

In times such as this, it is important to show your support for the regional community affected by fire.

Minimal tourism infrastructure was affected by the fires, and the fires did not come near the island’s main towns. One holiday home at Vivonne Bay, the Platypus Waterholes Boardwalk, the Rocky River Campground and road signage have been damaged.

In the areas of the island unaffected by the fires, there are plenty of tourism attractions, beaches and wildlife experiences for visitors to enjoy.

Almost all major Kangaroo Island tourism attractions not located in national parks are open to the public.

Four national parks are open to the public on Kangaroo Island.

2-Dec-07 - Kangaroo Island Ferries (SA) Launch New Website

As a result of extensive growth within the company, we have relaunched the Kangaroo Island Ferries (SA) website. Additions to the site include information about our day tour, our vessel, and our new summer timetable. The new site is much easier to navigate and more visually appealing, with lots of photographs demonstrating the beauty of Kangaroo Island.

Visitors to the site are not only able to access information regarding our fares and timetables, but can also check weather conditions in the area too. There will be regular updates and improvements to the new site to keep all of our passengers and business partners up-to-date with our progress.

14-Oct-07 - Our 3000th Passenger Milestone

Mr Mundon from Come Fish Australia is the 3,000th passenger to travel with Kangaroo Island Ferries (SA). He and his friend were surprised and amazed at the Bay of Shoals sparkling wine gift they received. They enjoyed their trip across and will be back traveling on the Seaway soon as Mr Mundon has a large fishing charter operation starting over on K.I. Our direct route to Kingscote is becoming a popular service for both visitors and residents of Kangaroo Island and we are receiving a lot of support from satisfied passengers.

25-Sep-07 - New Summer Timetable

To cope with increased demand, we have had to add an extra two trips daily to our summer timetable. We now offer a 6:00am service departing Kingscote and an 8:00pm service from Wirrina Cove. Increased services to the island mean more flexibility and choice for passengers traveling to K.I. Our new summer timetable begins Saturday 1st December and will run until Tuesday 25th March 2008. Both services will be subject to seasonal demand.

24-Sep-07 - 1000th passenger after only 3 weeks of service

The Myers family from Victoria arrived at the Wirrina Cove Resort on Saturday 22nd September for the 2.30pm ferry service to Kingscote, Kangaroo Island, and were delighted with the news that one of their family were the 1000th passenger to board the Seaway.

The family will enjoy their gift of local wine selected from Bay of Shoals winery on Kangaroo Island and a box of chocolates. Their plan for their stay on KI was to find a secluded beach and enjoy their holiday to the max.

Kirk Gibbons (General Operations Manager of KI Ferries-SA) said the service was proving to be a winner and the price incentives being offered reflected a keenness to do business in the area.

Next milestone for the company is the 500th vehicle to board the Seaway, "the highway to K.I!"
